Surveillance

Year:2008

Genre: Crime/Drama/Mystery/Thriller

Runtime: 97mins

Rating: R

IMDB Score: 6.4/10 (6,700+ Votes)

Director: Jennifer Chambers Lynch

Writers: Kent Harper & Jennifer Chambers Lynch

Plot: Two FBI agents attempt to clarify the murders occurring in a desolate region. They approach the witnesses of the latest incident with the help of the local police. All of them hide something and all have wildly different stories to tell.

Audio: Pass. Almost perfect audio there were a few times that it was hard to hear what the actors were saying when they were being interrogated and some of the songs did not really work all that well with the movie.

Acting: Pass Plus. I’m giving the acting a plus rating for one person and one person alone Bill Pullman. Up until about 10 or maybe 15mins left in the movie he plays a very by the book F.B.I agent then BAM! He comes out of his shell. I can’t recall any movies where he plays a character like that. You will be saying “Wow.” The rest of the cast is just fine but I was not to big on the person who played the female F.B.I agent, at least not at the end of the movie anyways. I felt this project had a weird cast I mean you have Bill Pullman;Michael Ironside;French Stewart;Cheri Oteri (yes the chick from SNL) and Ryan Simpkins who is 12 in real life, played an almost 9yr in the movie when she was 10. You may recall her as Amy from the movie Balls Out: Gray the Tennis Coach as the daughter of the principal. She was the one talking about getting money for her hoes so that can shot up. The cast really does work well together even if it’s an odd mix of actors.

Bill Pullman

Visual: Pass. Very simple nothing over the top. Some blood and some gore but far from what you would think when you hear the name Lynch. No nakedness and I was OK with that for this movie. Not because I didn’t want to see some of the chicks nude because well I did. I just didn’t feel that nudity would have fit into the movie as far as storytelling goes.

Writing: Fail Plus. All right the plot sounds good doesn’t it? Well to bad it doesn’t deliver. I figured out who did what well within 20mins of the movie. I think the only real reason I did is because I expect a certain type of writing from a Lynch even if it isn’t David. I do think the “shock” ending will shock people who don’t usually watch movies like or for anyone who just doesn’t know many works of David.

How do I look?

Ed./Dir: Pass Minus. This movie could have been much better if the use of split screen was used a few times. The shots were lined up well and nothing seemed to be cut to soon or not soon enough. This area of the film just felt like it was doing what it needed and nothing more.

Final Feelings: The movie is a bit boring til the end but I would say rent it because the movie does Pass but honestly not but a great margin.
